I've been a busy fangirl lately and I have some fic and some recs and other things to share. <3

It was Bring Back the Porn day on IJ on Tuesday and I submitted two fics. One of which is a Mansfield Park, Fanny/Mary fic which will probably get very little love but which I enjoyed writing so much. I've just been away with my family on a Jane Austen themed holiday and my book to present on was Mansfield Park. We shared out all the books and gave talks and made films and songs and quizzes, had debates about Darcy's dubious moral code, played murder mystery games (I was Lady Catherine!) and cooked regency dinners and dressed up. It was the best family holiday!!! Anyway I came home and wrote porn which I won't be sharing with my family but am happy to share with you!

The Bed We Loved In was a Spinning World, NC-17, 2600 words, An afternoon by the lake - for one day Mary and Fanny are the masters of Mansfield Park.

I also wrote Spartacus (TV) fic, about Season 2 Lucretia lusting after pregnant Ilithyia: Cherish, NC-17, 1100 words, Lucretia hates to bathe alone.

I also want to recommend some fics that were submitted which I really enjoyed:

4 Spartacus fics by Aldiara - a saxa/belesa fic, a Barca/Pietros fic that totally broke me; and one sweet and sexy and one angsty but sexy nagron fic. Enjoy!

And for anyone that fancies some Eagle fic, of Esca/Marcus ironing out the kinks in their happily ever after, then Spaghettitoes's Status and Position is for you!

Oh hai! I'm just going to pretend I've been here the whole time.

Just read a great little Agent Carter, Peggy/Dottie fic by st_aurafina, Teamwork posted to FemslashFiclets which I started following this week. Definitely think writing a few femslash tidbits could get me through this upcoming revision!

I also posted Vikings fic this week!
Title: Purgatory Road
Author: Me!
Fandom (pairing/characters): Vikings, Athelstan/Ragnar, Odin.
Rating: Gen
Word Count: 948
Summary:There’s a god at the end of this road. Perhaps more than one.
Odin assists Athelstan in resolving some of the conflicts of Athelstan's afterlife i.e one more way to ensure Athelstan and Ragnar end up together.
Warnings: A character is dead. :O
Author's Note: Basically I wrote pseudo-religious backchat between Athelstan and Odin to try and resolve Athelstan's faith crisis and also get him to Ragnar in Valhalla. IDEK!

I had two other Vikings fans staying with me last week and pretty much forced them to write and post fic for me too! YAY GUESTS! So I'm thrilled to rec I Dreamed a Dream which is the fix-it fic we all needed after the Born Again episode by Lil. And Inga wrote sexy bathing fic from a happier time. So delightful!!

Ohhhhhhh my [community profile] purimgifts story. Its left me a sobbing mess but it's so beautifully done! I wanted a Prim story from the Hunger Games and boy did I get what I asked for. I mean, I should be careful what I wish for, because this mystery author clearly wants to crush my heart in her/his hands. I'm longing for more! It's here: For The Kids Back Home (part 1)

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create... See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser-known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom who maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.

FANMIXES! I have listened to some fantastic mixes this year that have either buoyed me up or torn my heart in two.

[livejournal.com profile] colin_chaotic made A Journey of Fifty Thousand Words - a mix for nanowrimo (!) that was superduper cool and tracked the stages of that particular writing journey really well. I love how you can feel the ups and downs, the desperation and exhilaration all the way through it.

[personal profile] somehowunbroken made Spark - a Hunger Games, Peeta/Katniss mix that really gets under the skin of how unsure they are of each other and how much they have the power to hurt each other even as they cling together. It's excellent.

Savage Antinous is pure paincake of the Enjolras/Grantaire variety. Stabby and beautiful by The-Cynic on 8-tracks.

[livejournal.com profile] hbics just posted my waywardmixes holiday exchange present, Live Like You Choose To which was Bomb Girls women inspired by Marge Piercy's The Low Road. It is exactly what you would want for a meeting of this show and this poem, about the women banding together and relying on each other and finding their voices. Her song choices are perfect.

The same mixer has also done two really excellent Bible/Jesus Christ Superstar mixes that examine the relationships so well; the first, Stoic Minds and Bleeding Hearts is Jesus/Judas/Mary and is really well configured to the dynamics of that particular OT3; the second, Mary Go Round, is about Mary Magdalene and Mary, Jesus's mother becoming each other's surrogate family after the deaths of Jesus and Judas. Both of these are really interesting and really fantastic.

And finally, [personal profile] mementis made a totally lovely and fun Due South, Ray K/Fraser mix, Time Make Us Wise last year that just makes me want to rest my chin on my hands and blink 2D hearts out of my eyes.

Go forth and listen!

Oh ho ho, but there's been a good haul this year!
Christmas here has certainly been a bit chaotic what with a hospitalised grandfather, a stroppy uncle, a leaky roof, a brother getting married and almost-step-siblings turning up all over the place but I've at least managed to read all the lovely fic written for me. I'm still making my way through the excellent Generation Kill fic over on the YAGKYAS comm but I am taking note of everyone else's Yuletide recs with great interest!

I am so happy to have received, not one but two GK stories this year! It totally makes up for last year when I only pinch hit so didn't have a story written all for me. Both stories were Eric Kocher-centred and all kinds of awesome.

Squared Up  is an Eric Kocher/Doc Bryan story that is utterly glorious. It's full of anger and sensuality and an unwillingness to put up with bullshit. Sections of it sent shivers up my spine and made me want to cry with how beautifully their relationship was painted. There was also bonus Kocher & Colbert friends-chat which sealed the deal on this being the best thing ever.

The Exiled Prince is a GK/Avengers crossover of awesome. Ray as Iron Man. Nate as Captain America. Brad as Thor. Seriously. :DD I love that the author kept to the GK characterisations despite putting them in the Avengers world, that made this really special as well as a really fun read. It's written from Kocher's perspective but with a side of Brad/Nate that is quite delicious.

And for Yuletide!!!! My first time participating has been really fun and I got a fantastic Dance Academy story that really played into lots of things I love about the show, particularly the Kat/Abigail friendship that is the theme of the fic.
Making The Name Fit is a brilliant story about Kat learning to do away with her self-sabotaging habits with the help of Abigail's unique brand of friendship and honesty. I heart this story so much!!

Oh but do I love this time of year, so much awesome fic giving and receiving.

There were some great fics posted for [community profile] femslashex this year and these are the ones I loved - sadly I'm only reading in my fandoms or general interest so I'm sure I've missed a ton of great stuff as well.

Stockholm, Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent/Aurora, Aurora/Prince Philip. Both the tone of this and the complexity of the relationships are beautiful in this.

Blood Sacrifice, Welcome to Night Vale, Old Woman Josie/Faceless Old Woman, This short fic rocks socks and is super creepy, natch.

Bittersweet and Strange, Disney characters, Mulan/Belle. This merges the worlds of Mulan and Belle from Beauty and the Beast and is a lovely story about adventurous women finding what they need, the tug of home, and hard choices when marrying cultures together.

Know Your Weapons, The Hunger Games, Cashmere/Glimmer, This is a great development of the mentor/mentee relationship that could of existed here and the fucked-uppedness of District 1.

The Mercy of the Fire, Supernatural, Bela Talbot/Anna Milton, Anna has work for Bela and that means saving her from Crowley. I love Bela's voice here, it is divine. <3

And in the spirit of sharing, I just received my fic for original [community profile] smut_fest , [personal profile] ingenius wrote Beggars Can't Make Choices all for me. And it is so yummy I can't even. It is glorious threesome fic, m/m/f, with rebel fighters and power differences and uniforms and all sorts of other kinky fun times which are all SO HOT. I encourage everybody to go read it!

[community profile] femslashex  reveals were this week! I feel so lucky, I got such a wonderful fic, exactly what I was hoping for in fact!!

Lights Earth With Her Silver is a Bletchley Circle fic by [personal profile] scintilla10 that focuses on Jean just after the conclusion of the season as she goes back to her life after all the excitement of reuniting with the Bletchley girls to solve the case. I love how it starts with that slightly weird city thing where you live intimately with total strangers whose lives you overhear through thin walls. I love how it takes that loneliness, combined with the loneliness of something ending, and secrets you are unable to share, and then gently opens Jean's life back up, showing her how her neighbour could be just as ready to share something new as Jean is. It's truly gorgeous! The OC is beautifully rendered and the tone is just so, so lovely. <333333333333

In return, I wrote Slowly, You Cleave To Her for AO3 user Aoife. It's a Vorkosigan Saga fic about Kareen Vorbarra and Alys Vorpatril. It charts their relationship from Alys's wedding to Gregor's. I had a lot of fun pairing these two up and thinking about how they would support each other and how their friendship could develop into something more.

I plan to give lots more of the femslashex fics a read so I hope I will be back with lots more recs!

A bit behind the times but I just watched The Bletchley Circle and am now watching The Hour, series 1. I loved Bletchley so, so, so much although I had my heart in my mouth the entire time. I'm only on episode 3 of The Hour but Bel and Lix are killing it so far. Romola is so bloody talented I can't deal with it and every time I see Anna Chancellor these days I am filled with the desperate urge to buy tickets to Private Lives that she's in at the moment despite the tickets being stupidly expensive.

Fic Recs?

Does anyone have any fic recs for either show? I would especially loved some fics about Jean from Bletchley that fills out her back story in some way, we got so little about her. I don't have an overwhelming urge for any particular pairing, all the women had lovely moments and Susan's relationship with her husband was also pretty interesting so really, I'm open to anything that anyone's read that they loved and was well written etc.

I watched a great film called My Brother The Devil which I heartily recommend to anyone feeling like watching a film about youth gangs in London that doesn't over glamourise the lifestyle and tries to portray the wealth of different issues and personal conflicts that can come up for people in those situations.cut for length )<33

So I posted this at the GK comm's themed rec post the other day but I thought I'd post it here too and because, after all, it's about some of my favourite Generation Kill things this year. What's not to shout about?!

l_s_d_me's follow up to her Count to Three fic This Isn't Over - everything in this verse is love and I was thrilled to have more. Also the fanmix by deedlit50 just creeps under the 2012 barrier and is the perfect companion to the whole fic.

green_grrl's awesomely thorough Brad/Nate rec list. I'd mostly stopped reading Brad/Nate for a while and this was a lovely way to catch up!

nightanddaze wrote Brad/Ray Rockstar!AU The Comeback Kid (Ain't Got Shit On Me) which was completely gorgeous and portrayed the pairings dynamic so well!

surexit's Brad/Ray manifesto because it's impossible to read it without flailing ridiculously. I direct you to points 3 and 4 in particular. ;)

looleebelle wrote me girl!Ray/Brad post-apocalypse fic A Vision of the Start and the End for the Boys of Summer exchange on we_pimpin. The whole exchange was glorious fun but obviously, considering this was written for me and it was EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED and stunningly written, this is my favourite. The two Hunger Games AUs were also unbeliveably beautiful and achey. sephirothflame wrote Walt/Ray and schlicky wrote Brad/Ray.

The Podfic challenge Semper Hi-Fi. OMG this was amazing. I didn't partake because I moved house like three times this summer but it was all glorious and so awesome to have so many more GK fics to listen to. My favourites were Baghdad ain't shit read by luzula, Falling Apart to Half the Time read by fandomfan and (I don't think they were part of the same challenge) but inkjunket read a couple of dsudis's Every Marine a Wolfbrother series and they're fab too!

There were some great fanmixes that I loved this year. Pointblankdarcy made Fall a Brad/Nate mix based on Carol Ann Duffy's poem You. It's ridiculously perfect. etacanis also did some paintastic Brad/Nate mixes but it's her Ray/Walt mix Presence which is making me fall apart on repeat at the moment.

I haven't even read half of the YAGKYAS entries yet but so far I've loved Your Shadow Weighs A Ton which is Bryan/Fick and Corporal Person: or, How Nate learned to stop worrying... which is such a great Nate/Ray story!
